A driver who allegedly rammed an unmarked police car in Ferntree Gully then made a run for it, jumping over fences, before he was eventually found hiding in a front yard.

The Cranbourne man, 25, and his female passenger, a 22-year-old Cranbourne woman, are facing multiple charges after officers spotted a Holden Commodore driving northwest along Burwood Highway just before midnight on Monday, May 24.

A Victoria Police spokesperson said the registration plate on the back of the Holden was allegedly stolen, so police did a U-turn in an attempt to stop and speak to the driver.

The spokesperson said the Holden turned into Thomas St, closely followed by the unmarked police vehicle.

The car pulled into a driveway of a commercial property as officers continued driving along Thomas St.

Officers then came back around and pulled in behind the Commodore and got out and approached the driver side.

The male driver then allegedly reversed into the police vehicle before getting out and running away.

The woman, who was in the front passenger seat, was arrested without incident.

Police took chase and the man was seen jumping fences.

The area was cordoned off and the man was later arrested by the canine unit after he was found allegedly hiding in the front yard of a property on Wes Crescent.

The woman has been charged with handle stolen goods, possess drug of dependence and breaching bail curfew.

The pair have both been remanded and will appear at Ringwood Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, May 25.

The police vehicle suffered minor damage and the officers were not injured during the incident.
