Knox coronavirus: COVID active numbers in Boronia and Wantirna despite low numbers

As coronavirus continues to decline across Melbourne, numbers suggest Knox could be the first in Melbourne’s east to have zero active cases. But there are still a couple of postcodes with ill residents.

Knox is vying to be the first coronavirus free area in the outer east with only three active cases.

According to the Department of Health and Human Services residents in the municipality have only had four confirmed active cases in the past fortnight, with 3753 done.

As of Saturday, Victoria recorded 37 new cases of coronavirus, six deaths, and the total number of cases at 19,800.

Both Boronia and Wantirna each have one case, while it is unclear where the other case is located.

Since the start of the pandemic Knox has had 160 cases with Wantirna the most infected at 123, while Rowville recorded 45 cases and Ferntree Gully (including Lysterfield and Upper Ferntree Gully) had 26.

The other areas included Boronia, 22, Bayswater, 14, Scoresby, 10, Knoxfield, 7, and The Basin, 6.

The number of active cases in neighbouring municipalities includes Yarra Ranges at 9, Maroondah at 4,

While in the east Monash and Whitehorse still have 10 cases each, and Manningham has 4.

In a message on Friday to the Knox community, Mayor Nicole Seymour said it was a relief to be able to close the week with hope that brighter days are within sight.

“Today’s numbers provide reassurance that our efforts are yielding the desired results and move us forward in our fight to overcome this virus,” Cr Seymour said.

“Don’t let fear of uncertainty paralyse you from seizing every joyful moment or opportunity that comes your way.

“Survival is a human instinct, you can and you will get through this.”
