Work has finally begun on the long-awaited upgrade of Westfield Knox, with new images revealing the exciting changes on the way.

Westfield Knox owners Scentre Group in conjunction with joint venture partner State Super have announced the $355m redevelopment will happen in stages over 2022 and 2023.

The first stage will include the new fresh food market on Level 1, featuring a selection of new

and existing retail partners and food catering experiences alongside new supermarkets Woolworths and ALDI. The fresh food market is expected to open in late 2022.

The second stage will include the addition of a new 2000sq m library, on the third level of the former Myer store, and an elevated retail offer spanning a diverse mix of categories, from fashion to beauty, youth and homewares and a range of new uses, including co-working facilities and recreational spaces for the community to enjoy.

The names of the new stores and details on the new community uses will be announced during the redevelopment.

In addition to the retail upgrades, the centre will undergo a comprehensive internal update entailing new flooring and finishes throughout, as well as upgraded customer amenities.

And the centre is going green, with Scentre Group to include a number of sustainability initiatives which will improve the centre’s energy, water and emissions intensity.

The installation of a large rooftop solar system will generate onsite renewable electricity.

The upgrade will be welcome news to Knox shoppers, who have faced a nine year wait for work to begin, with the upgrade to the centre first revealed back in 2012.

Over the years, many retailers have closed their doors at the ageing centre, including Myer, Harvey Norman and McDonald’s.

Scentre Group’s director of development Stewart White said: “Construction is now underway. “This is the first step in bringing our vision for Westfield Knox to life.

“We have listened to our community and learned first-hand what they want to see and

experience in their local Westfield centre and now we’re focused on delivering a world-class

living destination by the end of 2023.

The internal fit out of the centre is also getting a huge overhaul.

“We’re looking forward to taking our customers on the journey with us and will have further

updates, including new retail announcements and details on our community spaces, to share as

works progress.”

Upon completion, Westfield Knox will have a gross lettable area of 144,810sq metres, and will feature seven major retailers and about 350 specialty retailers, opening in stages

between the end of 2022 and 2023.

It comes as gym Anytime Fitness and indoor play centre Little Sandpiper are set to move into the largely deserted section of the centre near Rebel Sport, where there are a number of empty shops.

And popular ice cream store Augustus Gelatery is set to open at Knox Ozone.

Work is also progressing on the new Urban Alley Brewery in Ozone, with the former Irish pub demolished.
