The man accused of running over a woman with her own car during a violent carjacking at Casey hospital will stay behind bars after he did not apply for bail.
Adam Barry, 25, appeared before the Dandenong Magistrates Court on Thursday.
Mr Barry — of no fixed address — allegedly jumped behind the wheel of the 66-year-old woman’s car as she was assisting her husband to enter the emergency entrance of the hospital at 10.45am on Wednesday.
When the Upper Beaconsfield woman tried to stop the car, Mr Barry allegedly hit her with the car before driving away.
The woman was rushed to hospital where she remains in a serious but stable condition.
Police arrested Mr Barry on Wednesday night at an address in Pioneer Bay after they located the allegedly stolen Ford.
Mr Barry is facing charges of theft of a motor vehicle, dangerous driving causing serious injury, unlicensed driving, reckless conduct endangering life and failing to render assistance.
He sat expressionless in the dock and stared at the floor for the duration of his court appearance.
The court heard he had several injuries including a bleeding cut on his forehead, headaches and injuries to his arms.
Magistrate Steven Raleigh ordered the custody nurse to attend to Mr Barry.
He did not apply for bail and will stay in custody until his next court appearance on May 12.
The incident is believed to have been caught on hospital CCTV footage which will form part of the prosecution case.
