A man attacked a bouncer after he was refused entry to an eastern suburbs pub having been booted from the same venue the week before.
Justin Atkins, 45, fronted Ringwood Magistrates’ Court on February 25 where he pleaded guilty to attempting to punch a security guard at the Olinda Creek Hotel after being refused entry in August last year.
Prosecutor Senior Constable Chris Cato told the court Mr Atkins and two friends attempted to enter the pub about 1.55am on August 18 but were blocked from entering by security because they were banned from the venue the previous week.
Mr Atkins then charged the bouncer and took a number of swings at him, causing the bouncer to suffer scratches to his face and twist his ankle as he tried to dodge the onslaught, Sen-Constable Cato told the court.
In his interview with police Sen-Constable Cato told the court Mr Atkins said one of the security guards had sat on him and punched him in the eye a week earlier.
Mr Atkins’ lawyer told the court his wife was punched in the mouth by one of the pub’s bouncers on the same occasion.
“In his view the security guard has punched her and injured her lip,” she said.

“In his own mind he accepts he’s really done the wrong thing by taking matters into his own hands.”
Magistrate Michael Wighton told Mr Atkins he was lucky the security guard wasn’t more seriously injured and he fined Mr Atkins $750 without conviction.
“The security guards are guarding private property, if you’re asked to leave you have to leave,” Mr Wighton said.
“Luckily the security guard wasn’t significantly injured, if he was you’d be facing more significant trouble than you are today.”
