A man is believed to have been arrested at a house near an abandoned Heathmont church on Tuesday.
Images of police cars parked near the church and in a bus lane on Canterbury Rd were posted in the Heathmont Neighbourhood 2020 Facebook group around 2.30pm.
A neighbour at a house next to the church told Maroondah Leader his “mate” had been arrested in relation to an allegedly stolen car.
Leader understands up to three people could have been involved in the incident.
The church has long been a sore point for locals and with rumours of squatters calling it home.
It has been abandoned for several years and the site is covered in overgrown grass and rubbish, while the building has been heavily vandalised.
Earlier this year, VCAT gave the green light for a double-storey childcare centre at the site, which was originally refused by Maroondah Council.
Applicants Hume Childcare were ordered to start the project within two years to improve the amenity of the site.
Ringwood police have been contacted for comment.
