Hay bale work could be to blame for a grassfire that was nipped in the bud by Yarra Valley firefighters ahead of tomorrow’s scorching temperatures.
Firefighters received reports of the fire near the corner of Healesville-Yarra Glen Rd and School Lane at 3.15pm and had the flames under control within half an hour.
District 13 commander Matt Hirst said seven CFA trucks, with crews from Healesville, Yarra Glen, Dixons Creek and Badger Creek, were on scene and cleaning up about 4.30pm.
Mr Hirst said he believed the .04ha fire started while contractors were undertaking hay baling work.
“Don’t undertake high risk activities on properties in the lead up to high fire danger days,” Mr Hirst said.
“Limit the use of machinery and perhaps wait until a cooler day.”

Authorities have declared a Total Fire Ban day for the state tomorrow ahead of temperatures expected to rise above 40C.
“It’s a timely warning to residents to be aware of their surroundings tomorrow given it’s a high fire danger day,” Mr Hirst said.
He urged the community to keep an eye of the Emergency Vic app, tune into the emergency radios stations and have their fire plans ready.
