A man has died after the car he was driving crashed down an embankment in Gembrook.
Police are appealing for witnesses after the tragic incident on Bessie Creek Rd just after 4.30am.
Victoria Police media officer Leading Senior Constable Rohan Imms said Cardinia highway patrol officers were investigating the fatal accident when the car left the road and went down the embankment.

Leading Sen-Constable Imms said emergency services attended the crash but a 36-year-old man died at the scene.
He said Bessie Creek Rd would be closed while police investigated.
Officers will prepare a report for the coroner.
