An unknown woman, who police are urgently trying to identify, remains in a critical condition at the Royal Melbourne Hospital after she was hit by a car in Bayswater North.
Police are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information after the pedestrian, believed to be in her 40s or 50s, was struck last night just after 6.30 on Elmhurst Rd.
Maroondah highway patrol officers are investigating and trying to identify the woman, who is described as caucasian, with grey hair and a thin build, and was wearing dark clothing.
Victoria Police media officer Leading Senior Constable Melissa Seach said police were told a car was entering a driveway when the woman was hit.

Sen-Constable Seach said officers were keen to speak any witnesses or anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage who might have been in the area at the time of the incident.
She said the driver was helping police with their inquiries.
