Update: An Emerald mum who was taking her daughter to be tested for coronavirus has been fined for careless driving after causing a three-car crash in Ferntree Gully.

Police closed off Dorset Rd to traffic for half an hour after emergency services were called just before 11am.

The crash happened when a 53-year-old Clyde woman was waiting to turn right onto Alma Ave when she was rear-ended.

The impact sent the woman’s car into oncoming traffic where it was hit again.

Knox highway patrol Leading Senior Constable Sue Franklin said the Emerald woman, 53, was slowing to look for a street when she smashed into the car in front.

Sen-Constable Franklin said the Clyde woman, who was waiting to turn, also had her 18-year-old daughter in the back of the car holding the family’s bunny which they were taking to the Melbourne Rabbit Clinic on Alma Ave when they were shunted forward and hit by another car.

Dorset Rd is now open again.
