UPDATE: Coronavirus has taken hold in Melbourne’s east with live cases reaching 116 across eight municipalities.

Since yesterday the number of ill Victorian’s has increased by 177, with the total number of cases at 3967 — 641 through community transmission.

Whitehorse is leading with 24 cases, while Monash is close behind with 22, while Boroondara and Stonnington both have 18 each.

The outer east has also seen a rise with Maroondah at seven, Knox at six and Yarra Ranges at four.

Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews announced Stage 3 lockdown restrictions would be reintroduced across Melbourne as of midnight on July 8.

That means you can only leave home to shop for food or other essential items, provide care giving, for compassionate reasons or to seek medical treatment, for outdoor exercise with only one other person or members of your household, and to work or study if you cannot from home.

Knox Mayor Nicole Seymour urged the community to remain vigilant.

“We do not live in a bubble,” Cr Seymour said.

“People from our areas work in many of these hotspots or have to use public transport that may be shared by people from these hotspots.”

She said people who were essential workers or carers and live in the hot spot areas could work in the outer east.

“There is a flow of people from area to area, even with Stage 3 restrictions in place,” she said.

“That means we must all be vigilant.”

Yarra Ranges Council has reported that all Eastern Regional Libraries would be closing.

On its Facebook page the council urged everyone to stay safe, stay home wherever possible and socially distance around others.

It also reported there would be two additional coronavirus testing sites set up in the Yarra Ranges at Warburton Recreation Reserve and Wesburn-Millgrove CFA.

These join the existing outer eastern sites at EACH Lilydale, Healesville Hospital and Yarra Valley Health, EACH Ferntree Gully and EACH Ringwood.

Monash Mayor Stuart James urged his community to stay safe, stay home and get tested if feeling unwell.

“I know this is a difficult time for our community and our businesses,” Cr James said.

“There isn’t a single person in Monash who hasn’t been impacted in some way during this COVID-19 pandemic, but we will continue to work together and to support each other through to the other side.

“We’ve done this before and we can do it again.”
