Ferntree Gully: Burwood Highway motorcyclist allegedly found with drugs

The arrest of a motorcyclist near Ferntree Gully Macca’s has allegedly led police to a drug den.

A man has been charged after police pulled over a motorcyclist in Ferntree Gully.

A random motorbike arrest in Ferntree Gully has led to the alleged seizure of $130,000 of ice in Cockatoo.

More than 200g of methamphetamine was allegedly discovered when officers searched the house just before 4.30am on Wednesday, March 17.

The search happened after officers stopped a motorcyclist on Burwood Highway about 11.40pm on Tuesday.

Croydon detective Senior Constable James Tarrant said the man was on a bike without number plates at a car wash next to McDonalds when officers allegedly found 40g of methylamphetamine on him.

Officers later raided the man’s Cockatoo property and allegedly found another 200g of the drug, along with about $35,000 cash.

Sen-Constable Tarrant said the amount of methylamphetamine was equivalent to about 2000 drug deals and had a street value of $130,000.

“This is a major win for both the police and the community and has put a significant dent in the illicit drug trade of Melbourne’s eastern suburbs,” he said.

“The amount seized has prevented over 2000 street deals from occurring, valued in excess of $130,000.”

The man has been charged with trafficking a commercial quantity of methylamphetamine, trafficking methylamphetamine, possessing methyl amphetamine, negligently dealing with proceeds of crime, dealing property suspected to be proceeds of crime, stating a false name when requested, committing an indictable offence while on bail and unlicensed driving.

The 34-year-old was remanded in custody to appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court Wednesday, March 17.
