Evangelines cafe Tunstall Square Donvale files for liquidation

It was the Manningham cafe you would go to for a taste of French-styled high tea, home-cooked breakfasts and sweet treats. But after quickly becoming popular it hasn’t been able to keep its head above water.

A well-known cafe at Tunstall Square shopping centre, which is already suffering from stinky and delayed streetscape works, has shut its doors for good.
Evangelines — which launched French-styled high tea last year — went into liquidation on May 25 according to ASIC documents.

Managers Adam and Leni Moodie took over the Doncaster East cafe last year and served home-cooked breakfasts and sweet treats such as lemonade scones.

They decided to voluntarily wind up their company, Evangeline Entrecote Pty Ltd, with Matthew Kucianski, of Worrells Solvency and Forensic Accountants, appointed liquidator.

The cafe’s website and Facebook page have also been deleted.

Worrells’ accountant Daniel Wong said the cafe’s demise was largely due to the impact of the coronavirus outbreak and its landlord had reclaimed the premises.

Evangelines’ closure comes after contamination issues were uncovered in the latest stage of Tunstall Square’s revitalisation works.

The works, at the western end of the centre, began in January and shoppers have become frustrated with their progress.

Manningham Council confirmed the Environment Protection Authority uncovered a contamination issue at the nearby Caltex petrol station last month which had caused delays for drainage works.

The Moodies have been contacted through Mr Wong for comment.
