Some exciting renovations have just been completed so it’s full steam ahead for the new managers of a Doncaster East cafe whose growing fan base has been particularly impressed by a new-look high tea offering.

Evangeline’s Cafe — named after the daughter of managers Adam and Leni Moodie — opened last May.

The Donvale couple have styled the restaurant as a traditional, homely cafe with a slight French twist.

A modern high tea is hosted on the last Sunday of every month, which offers either a two-hour morning or afternoon sitting.

Upon arrival you are greeted with champagne and then sit down to enjoy a selection of sweet and savoury delights in a pretty atmosphere accompanied by French cafe music. Bookings for this event are essential.

The breakfast and lunch menu is packed with a wide range of options to keep everyone happy. They include home cooked breakfasts, crepes, pancakes, waffles, wraps, eggs and toasted sandwiches, plus vegetarian choices.

The sweet tooths will have plenty of options as well: each morning a batch of freshly-baked lemonade scones are prepared along with raspberry white chocolate muffins or traditional blueberry muffins.

Mr Moodie said they were excited after finishing a marathon three-day renovation.

“We replaced all the cafe bench top and cabinetry with a much more modern and light finish,” he said.

“The cafe is the same size but much more inviting now.

“We now have a licence to serve alcohol in our outside area which is gaining momentum with local tradies having a knock-off or residents enjoying a glass of wine on a pleasant afternoon.”

Anthea Leister was particularly delighted with the cafe’s high tea, describing her morning outing to Tunstall Square with her husband as “an amazing experience”.

“I have lived in Donvale for more than 25 years and just had to let everyone know about this cafe called Evangeline’s,” she said.

“They had really great coffee and food.”

The cafe is at 20 Tunstall Square, Doncaster East.
