THE MANAGER of a Wantirna accounting firm says she’s cheated death after an out-of-control car ploughed into her office this afternoon.

Robert Brown and Co Accounting’s Indrani Abeykoon was standing outside a meeting room with a client when the car suddenly smashed through a window just after 1.30pm.

The driver, a 70-year-old Bayswater man, was parking his car after dropping off his wife for an appointment at the nearby Wantirna Medical Centre.

His foot slipped off the brake and hit the accelerator, which sent the car into the side of the office.

The car smashed through a meeting room, which Ms Abeykoon and her client were about to enter. She said she was “still shaking” from the freak incident.

“Only one second (before) we were about to go in,” Ms Abeykoon said.

“Normally when I get the client I get them to go inside and sit down (in the room).

“There were two chairs both sides, those chairs are broken and we can’t see them, we both would have been very sorry.”

The driver was uninjured.

Witness Tony Marks, who works in the same complex, said he rushed to pull the driver to safety.

“Everyone was standing around, I asked if anyone was in the car and people didn’t seem to take much notice of that,” he said.

“I climbed in over the back seat, unhooked the seatbelt, and helped him crawl out of the car.
“The car has literally taken every square inch of that office space, and they were just about to sit in there.”

Knox highway patrol Leading Senior Constable Michael Dobson said Knox Council building inspectors would assess the damage.

“There were people about to go into that room and have a meeting, and it happened just before they went in, so they were very lucky,” Leading Sen-Constable Dobson said.
