DDCA: Springvale South’s Jordan Wyatt lines up in charity run before making blitzing hundred

There was no shortage of runs for Springvale South’s Jordan Wyatt on Saturday as he smashed an eye-catching century just hours after lining up in a charity run.

He ran, then he made runs.

Springvale South’s Jordan Wyatt smashed 118 from just 90 balls on Saturday afternoon just hours after running in a Mindfull Australia fundraising event.

He prepared for the Bloods’ clash with Berwick by running around the Geoff Watt Track in Warragul.

“They had a charity day down at the Geoff Watt Track in Warragul and there was lots of people running big, big kms,” Wyatt said.

“It made the day a little bit tougher – I went and ran it with some friends and tried to try raise some money for Mindfull.

“Once you’ve finished running you report what you’ve done, so it’s like a team vs team sort of thing.

“My cousin actually pumped out 42 (kilometres), which was really cool, it’s a great initiative, hopefully creating conversation.

“Mindful is something I have worked with before, back in my last couple of years at Casey (South Melbourne), I was raising money per run I made.

“I think it’s a great cause.”

Wyatt, batting at No.4, bashed 11 fours and six sixes as the Bloods posted 9-337.

While Wyatt said the run made the day a little bit longer, he doesn’t think it was the reason he kept the scoreboard ticking so freely.

“I sort of thought to myself yesterday that if the ball was in my half of the wicket yesterday that I was going to go at it,” he said.

“I thought the wicket might be a bit dead, back of a length more challenging than it was in the end, I know the first 20 overs it was nipping around a bit, it was overcast.

“As soon as I got in the cloud lifted and it was sunny, the clouds lifted, so it flattened out into a pretty good wicket, but anything full, I was going hard at it.

“I blocked the first three balls and got a single, but those three balls I felt like I was seeing them well and I played them nice and late, watched it onto the bat, was clear in my mind.

“I got one away off Cory Bevan in my second over and that sort of set the tone a bit for me, but I felt really good from the outset.”

Wyatt, who now has two Turf 1 centuries to go with his Premier Cricket one, said Saturday’s knock was “definitely up there” in terms of his best.

As for the pre-match routine, he said the night before pizza-and-beer combo will be hard to displace.
