More than 100 children had to be removed from a Croydon childcare centre after an air conditioner exploded, with more than a dozen firefighters called to contain the fire.

Staff had to evacuate 120 children from a Croydon childcentre after an air conditioner exploded, starting a fire.
Firefighters were called to Discovery Childcare and Education on Maroondah Highway just before 4pm yesterday after staff noticed smoke coming from an air conditioner.
Firefighters arrived six minutes later to find a fire in the roof of the single-storey building.
More than a dozen firefighters quickly contained the fire.

All 120 children in the centre’s care and were safely evacuated by the 25 staff members before the MFB arrived.

A staff member from Discovery Childcare and Education Boronia said the Croydon centre was closed until further notice.
Croydon police said the cause of the fire was not suspicious.
The incident comes after scaffolding fell onto another Croydon childcare centre on December 30.
