A Chum Creek woman has allegedly assaulted a police officer at the Coldstream coronavirus checkpoint.

The 41-year-old woman was arrested yesterday on the Maroondah Highway roadblock after failing to complete an oral fluid test and then allegedly assaulting the officer about 8.45am on Tuesday, August 4.

Victoria Police senior communications officer Cathy Le said the officer allegedly sustained a minor graze during the incident.

This comes as Yarra Ranges has registered the highest amount of active coronavirus cases across Melbourne’s east.

As of Tuesday, there were 129 active cases in the region which decreased overnight by three – bringing the overall number of people who have been infected since the beginning of the pandemic to 174.

The state saw an increase of 429 overnight, which brings Victoria’s overall number of active cases to 6706.

The numbers in neighbouring municipalities include Knox at 48, Maroondah at 48, Manningham at 52, Whitehorse at 65, and Monash at 79.

This comes as Premier Daniel Andrews announced a State of Disaster across Victoria with Stage 4 lockdown in place across metropolitan Melbourne.

A curfew between 8pm and 5am is part of the tightened restrictions, with everyone told to stay at home unless heading out for shopping, one hour of exercise, medical or.

Police are out in force making sure everyone stay within 5km radius of home – or has a good excuse to make them exempt.

Last week Kilsyth nursing home Kirkbrae Presbyterian Homes was evacuated after a sharp rise in coronavirus cases within days.

What started off as three cases rapidly rose and the Department of Health and Human Services is reporting cases linked to the outbreak are now at 110.
