Maroondah has recorded more coronavirus cases overnight, as Victoria recorded its second-highest daily total of new cases since the outbreak began.

The latest Department of Health data indicates another active case has emerged in the area, bringing the number of active cases in Maroondah to 43.

Maroondah has had more than 60 confirmed cases since the outbreak began, with its overall tally rising from 64 to 67.

It comes as Victoria had its second worst day since the outbreak began, with more than 600 new cases recorded across the state.

Outer east neighbour Yarra Ranges has emerged as a new hotspot for the virus with more than 100 active cases now present in the region.

Its total has risen from 90 to 108 active cases in the municipality, with its all-time total rising by 20 from 126 cases to 146 overall.

Knox has two less active cases, but its all-time total has risen by two cases as well.

Its overall total has increased from 75 to 77, with the number of active cases dropping from 44 to 42.

The DHHS also believes 12 coronavirus cases are linked to an outbreak at Dowell Windows in Bayswater.

Wyndham and Brimbank both now have more than 1000 all-time cases and are Melbourne’s coronavirus hot spots.

Wyndham has 1097 all time cases, including 671 active cases, with 101 new cases and 70 active cases added overnight.

Box Hill Hospital, Dandenong Hospital, Monash Medical Centre and Casey Hospital are the closest testing centres for those living in the outer east.

Neither the department or Eastern Health have confirmed whether either Maroondah Hospital or the Angliss in Upper Ferntree Gully would become coronavirus testing centres.

Eastern Health chief medical officer Alison Dwyer urged residents to monitor its website and social media pages for any updates on its services during the outbreak.
“COVID-19 (coronavirus) is like nothing our health services have ever dealt with before,” she said.

“Like all services, we find ourselves in uncharted waters and are constantly monitoring the needs of our community and making decisions in line with Federal and State Government recommendations.”
