Coronavirus Maroondah: More residents contract COVID-19

Despite new case numbers dropping throughout Victoria, more coronavirus cases have emerged in Maroondah overnight, with more than 40 active in the region.

More active coronavirus cases have emerged in Maroondah, with two more residents testing positive for the deadly virus.

The latest statistics from the Department of Health and Human Services showed a jump of two active cases and two overall cases in the municipality as of Thursday, August 13.

Active coronavirus cases in Maroondah are now at 44, with 88 people infected in total since the pandemic started.

Neighbouring municipalities with active cases include Yarra Ranges with 131, Knox with 67, Whitehorse with 77 and Monash with 85.

Throughout the state, there was another 278 cases and eight deaths as of Thursday, August 13.

Wyndham remains Victoria’s coronavirus hotbed, with 913 active cases and an all-time total of 1720 cases.

The number of unknown cases throughout Victoria has jumped to 251, with 208 of them active cases.

Box Hill Hospital, Dandenong Hospital, Monash Medical Centre and Casey Hospital are the closest testing centres for those living in the outer east.

Neither the department or Eastern Health have confirmed whether either Maroondah Hospital or the Angliss in Upper Ferntree Gully would become coronavirus testing centres.

Eastern Health chief medical officer Alison Dwyer urged residents to monitor its website and social media pages for any updates on its services during the outbreak.

“COVID-19 (coronavirus) is like nothing our health services have ever dealt with before,” she said.

“Like all services, we find ourselves in uncharted waters and are constantly monitoring the needs of our community and making decisions in line with Federal and State Government recommendations.”
