Friends and family of a Mt Evelyn man who suffered head injuries after a horrific roof fall have raised more than $20,000 to support his wife and young sons.

Matt Nacha’s fell from a roof while at work and was rushed to the Royal Melbourne Hospital on Wednesday, November 14.

Mr Nacha’s brother in law Scott Johnson immediately set up a GoFundMe page to help his distraught wife, Dawn.

Within four days, 202 people had raised $22,300 — more than $7000 above the $15,000 goal.

Mr Johnson said while the last week had been a rollercoaster ride, Mr Nacha had woken up and started talking.

“We are all very relieved to see his massive progress neurologically in such a short amount of time,” he said.

“For this phase of recovery, while his brain adjusts and starts to make sense of everything, the doctors have requested no visitors as he is easily agitated with noises and movements.”

Mr Johnson said Mr Nacha was in his early 40s and had plenty of time ahead of him when the accident happened.

“We’ve been amazed at the generosity,” he said.

“Dawn is a schoolteacher and her students have donated their own money.”

He said the road ahead would be tough for the Nacha family and the fundraiser was to help alleviate financial pressures.

“We all know Matt’s a fighter. He will be fighting to get back to his wife, and to the two boys,” Mr Johnson said.

“We know Matty will fight his way as best he can, but Dawn will need some help.”
