YOU wouldn’t expect to see a Transformer in Croydon.
But with a lack of good coffee on Cybertron, Optimus Prime had no choice but to blast his way on to Croydon’s Main St.
The Transformer leader, standing at seven-foot tall, turned heads when he took a stroll on the popular cafe strip recently. And he’ll be back to hold court next Saturday — to hang out with dads and their children for a special superhero-themed Father’s Day festival.
He’ll be joined by good mate Batman, who will rock up in his Batmobile, and fellow superhero Wonder Woman. The Batmobile will be among 50 classic cars cruising down Main St.
There’ll also be live music, face painting, an animal zoo, and a raffle supporting Croydon charity Elishacare.
Croydon Main Street Traders Association spokeswoman Marta Makkai said traders wanted to celebrate the special efforts of local fathers.
“Dads are all superheroes in their own lives,” she said.
The festival is on from 10am to 2pm on September 1.
