Metro Trains staff have inspected vegetation around Upper Ferntree Gully station, after a huge gum tree crashed down on Tuesday, damaging several cars.
The huge tree landed on top of a white Toyota ute parked in the carpark off Burwood Highway, completely crushing the car, with several other vehicles also damaged.
According to Metro, it conducts routine vegetation inspections and following the incident on Tuesday, staff inspected the vegetation in and around the Upper Ferntree Gully station carpark.
It will work with individual passengers impacted by the incident, but did not say if any of the commuters would be eligible for compensation for their damaged cars.
Falling trees have also destroyed two cars on the Mornington Peninsula as extreme weather conditions continue to batter the area.
