For those who have visited The Acorn, it comes as no surprise The Basin watering hole has been voted the best bar in Knox.
In the four years since owner Tony Eastwood bought the already popular venue, it has gone from strength to strength and come through Covid lockdowns fairly unscathed.
The former Montrose Football Club president and businessman said couldn’t be happier with the title or how loved his pub and bar staff are by the outer east community.
Mr Eastwood said there was a beer for every taste on tap including Kilkenny, Guinness, Furphy, James Squire’s 150 Lashes Pale Ale, Great Northern and Canadian Club.
He said the bottled beer range was also extensive.
But it was cocktails that many ordered and that was down to their bar man who previously worked at The Irish in Knox.
“Our barman’s specialty is cocktails and people come for the martinis,” Mr Eastwood said.
But he said it was the community that made the pub so successful.
“The community is the best part and it’s what I love,” he said.
“There are a lot of great people from all around including The Basin, Montrose, Mt Evelyn – everyone comes from all around.”
He said since the last lockdown the venue had hosted numerous parties, because people have loved catching up, socialising and being able to enjoy each other’s company at his bar.
Mr Eastwood said patrons told him it was the atmosphere, friendly staff and community that made The Acorn such a great venue.
During the last major lockdown Mr Eastwood renovated the venue, which was welcomed by his patrons.
Make sure you book ahead so not to be disappointed.
