Alleged drunk driver arrested after hit-run on Mitcham Rd, Mitcham

A driver, who allegedly blew six times the limit, has been taken off the roads after an alleged hit-run in Melbourne’s east.

A man who allegedly crashed his Hilux into a parked car and then fled the scene blew six times the legal limit when police caught up to him.

A good Samaritan who witnessed the alleged incident followed the badly damaged vehicle to a Mitcham home and contacted the police.

Police breath-tested a 37-year-old man, who returned an alleged reading of .317.

They immediately suspended his licence.

“He is expected to be charged on summons with drink driving and other traffic offences,” a Victoria police spokeswoman said.

Victoria recorded its highest number of lives lost in 15 years, with 296 lives lost in 2023 compared to 241 in 2022.
