Shoppers are still waiting for Aldi to open in Boronia, three years after the supermarket giant announced plans to move to the suburb.

But shoppers should rest assured the project is still going ahead, although the completion date in unknown.

Knox councillors ticked off on a permit for the development back in 2018, including 50 apartments, a basement carpark and two shops, including the popular discount supermarket, at 1-13 Erica Ave.

The store was set to open in 2020, but still hasn’t been built.

Leader understands the landlord is now in the process of appointing a builder, so the project is proceeding, but there is no estimated completion date at this stage.

Cr Peter Lockwood said at the time it was the perfect location for apartments and the development would give Boronia “the shot in the arm” it needed.

Aldi also has plans to open at Westfield Knox.

The store will join Woolworths in the centre’s supermarket expansion on the first floor, replacing Myer.
