Escaped alpacas running in front of oncoming traffic on a main road in Mt Evelyn have landed a woman in hot water.

The livestock had to be corralled to safety several times on Swansea Rd early last year, with Yarra Ranges Council receiving numerous complaints about the wayward beasts.

According to the council, the animals’ owner, Aimee Elizabeth Carlile-Clark, had been issued with a notice to confine the animals in 2017.

However, the two naughty alpacas once again escaped from a Swansea Rd property into oncoming traffic on January 16 and February 18, 2020 – which led to Ms Carlile-Clark being issued two failure to comply notices.

The case came before Judicial Registrar Angela Soldani at the Ringwood Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, June 1.

Ms Carlile-Clark did not appear before the court, which heard a council employee caught the alpacas who caused trouble in peak-hour traffic.

It was revealed in court, Ms Carlile-Clark had informed the council the alpacas were disability support animals, but she did not address how the livestock escaped.

Ms Soldani found the two failure to comply notices proved and fined Ms Carlile-Clark without conviction to pay $1325, with court costs amounting to $270.
