GRADE six student Mikaela is determined to keep the Anzac Day tradition strong at her school.
The 11-year-old has written a short story about her great-great-uncle Arnold Toeblemann to share with her classmates at Mooroolbark’s Bimbadeen Heights Primary School.
Mr Toeblemann, a World War 1 digger, fought in France as part of the 8th Australian Infantry Battalion.
He was killed in action aged 21 and was buried in Belgium.
“I found out a couple of years ago that my great, great uncle was in the war and I thought it would be a good idea to tell the school about it,” Mikaela said.
“It’s important to talk about the Anzacs so the story doesn’t fade and so it keeps going on.”
Mikaela said her family would honour their Anzac relative by attending the dawn service in Lilydale.
