A woman subjected to a horrifying seven-hour sexual attack managed to film part of the ordeal before she managed to escape with bruises all over her body.

County Court judge Liz Gaynor praised the woman’s extraodinary courage and cleverness in filming the abuse despite being the prolonged attack.

The perpetrator, 36-year-old Israeli national Ofer Eshel, pleaded guilty to three charges of rape, two of causing injury recklessly and two of possession of a drug of dependence over the attack in December 2021 and appeared in court on Monday for a plea hearings

During the attack, Eshel slapped, punched and dragged the victim by the hair. He kept asking her for sex, in exchange for money and ketamine.

She was able to access her mobile phone and began recording Eshel’s threats and abuse and managed to escape after he told her to get into the shower.

She suffered injuries to her face and bruises over her body.

Video footage viewed by police showed Eshel walking around naked, carrying a foot-long baton or torch, and being verbally abusive and threatening towards her.

His lawyer Kate Ballard said Eshel accepted responsibility for his actions which were as a result of his drug use. He has a supportive family and his parents flew over from Israel to be by his side, she said.

Judge Liz Gaynor blasted Eshel and said the use of drugs could not be taken as a mitigating factor.

“He has failed to grow up, failed to take responsibility. He’s 36 now which is way too old for him to be using drugs. It seems he hasn’t turned his mind towards living as an adult,’’ Judge Gaynor said.

“I find his mode of offending as grandiose. It’s essentially a form of torture that has gone on for an entire day, interspersed with penetrative sexual activity, degradation, pain, physical assault.

“God knows how long this would have gone on for had she not got away, because he had more things planned for her in the shower. In a way, his offending has a level of sadism, he’s enjoying, taunting her and demanding and standing over her.
