Whittlesea mourns loss of former council chief executive David Turnbull
The death of former Whittlesea Council leader David Turnbull has left colleagues and peers in shock, as the local government “pioneer” is remembered for his “remarkable legacy”.

A former head of Whittlesea Council has been remembered for his “remarkable legacy” days after losing his battle with cancer.
The former chief executive and local government “pioneer” David Turnbull — who led the council from 2009 to 2016 — died on the weekend after a long stint with the disease.
Whittlesea Council administrator Lydia Wilson said Mr Turnbull left behind a “remarkable legacy”.
“David was a local government colleague who I have known over many years — I greatly admired his intellect, his humanity and his calm and considered approach no matter what the issue,” she said.
“He will be greatly missed by all.”
The council extended condolences to Mr Turnbull’s wife Suzane and children Tessa, Tom, Alice and Angus.
Mr Turnbull was the Mitchell Shire Council chief executive when he died.
He took up the role after leaving Whittlesea Council in 2016.

Mitchell Shire Council acting chief executive Mary Agostino said Mr Turnbull had an “amazing impact” on building communities.
“He was a wonderful leader who had so much pride in our people and organisation,” she said.
“He loved Mitchell Shire, and he had a significant impact on many staff both professionally and personally.
“His passing will have an impact on many. David was a great human being; he had all the qualities we aspire to.”
