DOREEN

Parents with toddlers mad about dummies and fire trucks can make their child’s day by organising a visit from the Doreen CFA.

One of the more unusual roles played by the branch is to be a repository for toddler’s dummies when they, or their parents, decide it is time for their use to stop.

Families can drop dummies at the station, or when they are able, the branch will trade dummies for a bag of lollies and a visit from the fire truck. Sundays are the best time for the Doreen CFA to collect dummies. Details: 9717 3965.

WHITTLESEA

The Whittlesea SES unit is on the hunt for new volunteers. If you think you have what it takes to help out in the community, head along to an information evening on August 26 from 7.30pm to 9pm at 77 Schotters Rd, Mernda.

The talk will include volunteer roles, SES structure, training requirements and the recruitment process.

The SES responds to trees down on roads, building damage, missing person searches, rescues and assisting police, fire and ambulance services.
