A breakfast club filling the tummies of more than 200 Mill Park Heights Primary School pupils every week is the recipient of a 2019 Leader Local Grant.

Mill Park Heights Primary School principal Val Brittain said the school was “ecstatic” to receive the grant which would enable it to continue to offer breakfast to pupils for the remainder of the year.

“At times we don’t have the funds to run it so it is fantastic for us,” she said.

“In the past we have had to look for funds locally.”

The breakfast club, which pupils help to run, goes through at least 12 loaves of bread and 60 eggs a week, Ms Brittain said.

About 200 of the school’s 1000 pupils eat breakfast at the club each week.

Leader has given more than $313,000 to community projects since the local grants program started in 2012.

This year there were 325 applications and more than 65,800 reader votes cast.

Leader Local Grants is presented by Lord Mayor’s Charitable Foundation, and sponsored by smoothfm and The Langham Melbourne.
