Whittlesea crime: Investigation into motorcyclist’s death continues

Police are seeking witnesses to a fatal motorcycle crash in Epping and Whittlesea motorists can expect a major police crackdown on local roads in the coming weeks.

EPPING

A motorcycle rider has died after a collision with a truck in Epping on August 20. Emergency services were called to the incident on Produce Dr about 10.45pm. The male rider, who is yet to be formally identified, suffered life-threatening injuries and died in hospital. A St Albans truck driver is in custody, assisting police. The circumstances of the crash are yet to be determined. Anyone who witnessed the incident, or may have dashcam footage, is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.

DOREEN

Police are hunting for Craig Thompson in relation to drug, driving and bail offences. The 36-year-old has a warrant for his arrest after he failed to appear in court. Thompson is described as 175cm tall, with a medium build, tanned complexion, brown hair and green eyes. He is known to visit Doreen, Mentone, Parkdale and Cranbourne. Anyone who knows his whereabouts should contact Crime Stoppers.

WHITTLESEA

Parks Victoria is urging people not to cut down hollow trees in the state’s parks and reserves. Authorised officers have increased patrols and surveillance following several cases of illegal tree felling and removal. The trees provide habitats for mammals, reptiles, birds and invertebrates. If you see anyone causing damage to park habitat, or taking wood, call Parks Victoria on 13 1963 to make a confidential report.

WHITTLESEA

Whittlesea motorists can expect an increase in the number of preliminary breath and drug testing sites as part of a statewide road policing operation. Operation Argus will run from September 5 to 8 in an attempt to fight the state’s road toll. Police say the focus of the operation will be impaired driving, motorcycles, excessive speed, driver distraction and people not wearing seatbelts. The operation will also target Nillumbik, Banyule and Darebin.
