Valentino Volpe: 12-year-old DJ could be youngest pro in the country

A young boy from Melbourne’s north is working as a pro DJ and making a name for himself in the local music scene.

While other kids are on the playground or playing video games on the weekend, this 12-year-old boy from Melbourne’s north is making a mark on the local music scene.

Valentino Volpe, also known as DJ Valbro, performing as a professional DJ across Melbourne, working with some famous faces in Australian entertainment.

The Doreen local has worked as a DJ at live comedy shows with stars such as Dave Hughes, Peter Helliar, Tom Gleeson and Kitty Flanagan.

Valentino said his passion for becoming a DJ began during the pandemic lockdowns.

“I was inspired by watching DJs and then mum and dad got me a controller for my birthday.”

“My dad taught me a few things,” he said.

He’s been involved in the world of music from a young age, playing piano and in school music ensembles.

Now, he’s skilled in music production and runs his own Val Bro enterprises, playing at gigs all over town.

He’s even produced his own music and released original tracks online.

His dad Marco Volpe said Valentino was working to build his DJ career independently and was super motivated.

“He runs it all himself, does all the bookings and music himself,” Mr Volpe said.

His Instagram page @valbro — dj, filled with snaps from his many gigs, has an impressive 1600 followers.

Valentino has already rubbed shoulders with some big names in the Australian dance music industry, such as Will Sparks, Joel Fletcher and his idol Timmy Trumpet.

He dreams of following in the footsteps of his favourite artists.

“I would love to play Tomorrowland … (my) idol Timmy Trumpet played there,” he said.

Valentino said his favourite thing about being a DJ was making people happy.

“I love how I can make people happy by playing them music and getting them to have fun,” he said.
