Trent Browney has been given another shot at bail.

A man who was allegedly caught stealing a car while on bail has pleaded to be given another chance, saying he just wants to cuddle his “missus” and “eat nice food”.

Trent Browney fronted Heidelberg Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, facing charges including theft of a car, possessing ice and driving unlicensed.

Browney was locked up on March 26 after police allegedly found him driving a stolen Subaru in the carpark of Thomastown’s Excelsior Hotel.

He allegedly had ice on him, was driving unlicensed, and was on bail with the condition he not drive.

Browney’s girlfriend gave evidence he could live with her under her watch in Reservoir if he was granted bail.

It was heard Browney could also be supervised by the Court Integrated Services Program and was hoping to be admitted into a drug rehabilitation detox program in Footscray.

Browney made some frank admissions to the court, saying his 12 days on remand had been eye-opening.

“I’m nearly 30 now,” he said. “I don’t want to be chasing my tail, doing this bullcrap.”

Browney said he was feeling great after a break from drugs, saying they weren’t his priority.

“I’m pretty sober now, 12 days in,” he said. “I don’t even feel like a cigarette to be honest with you.”

“I just want to go home, cuddle my missus, relax, eat nice food.”

Magistrate Michael McNamara agreed to grant Browney bail, saying delays on the court system could mean Browney spending more time in custody on remand than he might be sentenced to.
