A bit out of the blue, but a can’t-miss opportunity.
That’s how tradie brothers Tim and Matt Clark describe entry into this season of hit reality show House Rules.
It came at a pivotal time for Tim, 32, who had just welcomed daughter Isabella to the world.
He saw the show as an opportunity to get his house in top shape for his daughter to grow up in.

Tim lived in Brunswick, but bought the Thornbury house as a home for an expanding young family.
“We wanted to find more of a family home with a bit of a backyard and loved the area in Thornbury. But I never could have renovated it,” he said.
The blank canvas hadn’t been touched other than a kitchen update about 25 years ago and after finding the unique renovation opportunity the show offered, Tim called his brother.
Matt, 27, said he was on his way to his Northcote home after work when he got the call.
“It was a bit out of the blue. I was open to the idea and thought it would be a pretty cool opportunity. You just don’t expect it to happen,” he said.
But despite the opportunistic entry, the boys said they’re not taking the competition lightly.
“We didn’t apply thinking we’d go in and get bumped out. We decided we’d really give it a crack,” Tim said.
Both carpenters by trade, Tim and Matt said it was the first time they’d worked together for a while but it was just like old times.
Tim introduced Matt to the carpentry trade while Matt was on university holidays.
“We’re not afraid to say what we think. We’re easy going, and we’ve gone onto the show to have fun and enjoy our experience. That’s our philosophy,” Tim said.
House Rules premieres on Channel 7 on Sunday, April 28.
