A heartwarming musical tribute to frontline workers from Thomastown Secondary College students is bringing viewers to tears.
After the school’s performing arts production was cancelled this year due to coronavirus, students and teachers decided to create a video to express their gratitude to frontline workers called The Hero Project.
Their performance of Wind Beneath My Wings has been viewed more than 18,000 times on YouTube and has generated an overwhelming response from the community.
Thomastown Secondary College principal Leonie White said the reaction to the video had been amazing, with many viewers in tears.
Ms White said as well as frontline workers, they had also heard from a woman who had recovered from coronavirus and an elderly couple who were touched by the performance.
“Reactions have ranged from ‘Look I was having a really lousy day and now I feel so much better’ to ‘It gives me hope to see young people doing this.’”
“Someone said ‘I was having my worst day ever and I saw this and it gave me hope again’.”
“It’s making a difference to people.
“We really want to get it to teachers, nurses, ambulance drivers, police, and all people who are working at the frontline because that’s what it was all about.
“These people are putting their lives on the line every day.”
Ms White said creating the video had also lifted students’ spirits, helped them stay connected, and giving them purpose.
