A statement was posted to the centre’s Facebook page yesterday apologising for the “inconvenience”, sparking outrage from commenters.

“I am sorry that this cyclist’s death inconvenienced you ... this post is highly disrespectful to this man’s friends and family,” wrote Veronica Lake.

“A life has been lost, a family is in mourning. Death is not an inconvenience, it’s a horrific tragedy,” wrote Sammie Smith.

The post was deleted and replaced with a post offering free counselling services to anyone affected by the tragedy.

A YMCA spokesman did not apologise for the post when contacted by Leader.

“Our thoughts are with the cyclist’s family and friends at this incredibly sad and difficult time,” he said.

The cyclist, who is yet to be identified, was struck by a truck at 8am on Monday and died at the scene.

The male driver of the truck stopped and is being questioned by police.

Anyone who witnessed the incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
