A woman who crashed into two police cars after driving at 121km/h on three wheels has been slammed by a magistrate and told to stop playing the victim.

Simone Vella, 34, was sentenced to 245 days’ jail followed by 400 hours’ community work before Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on November 5, having pleaded guilty to numerous charges.

The serial criminal was given a scathing serve from Magistrate Justin Foster, who said he didn’t know how else to make Vella understand she needed to become a functioning member of the community.

Mr Foster said Vella kept coming to court “complaining of being the victim”, referencing an incident when she was stabbed at a party as a teenager as the cause of her crimes.

But he questioned how much impact an incident more than 15 years ago could have on her now.

“Ms Vella needs to understand that she’s not the victim,” Mr Foster said.

“You seem to be thriving on the indulgence of society’s understanding.”

He said it was also “especially galling” that after receiving $45,000 of support from TAC for a car crash she suffered in February, she had gone on to drive so dangerously and endanger police.

Vella drove a stolen car with two flat tyres at 121km/h down the Western Ring Rd, while being chased by police after noon on April 21.

She had just picked up a man who was being chased by a police helicopter in Bundoora, then had run over stop sticks put out by police.

Police cars had to circle Vella to protect other drivers as she sped along, swerving and losing one tyre in the process.

She tried to get the smoking car off the freeway at Edgars Rd, almost hitting two police cars, then colliding with another two police cars before sending her car spinning.

The South Morang mum also faced charges for incidents where she stole and used credit cards, had drugs and stolen IDs, and committed thefts.

The court heard Vella had a lengthy criminal history, including five previous vehicle thefts, and had been assessed as a high risk of reoffending.

Mr Foster urged Vella to end her “life of crime” and be with her young child.

He sentenced her to a 24-month corrections order on top of her jail time, noting she had already served 199 of the 245 days’ and would be out for Christmas.

Vella was also fined $3000.
