A Melbourne woman who sold dildos for a living and two others arrested for trafficking ice and other illicit drugs have copped substantial jail sentences.
Sarah Baines, Abdul Diallo and Darren Hafner fronted the County Court for sentencing on Tuesday after earlier pleading guilty to a raft of serious drug charges.
The trio conspired to buy 1kg of methamphetamine from a buyer for $165,000 at a service station in Thomastown on the evening of June 22, 2022 but the sale did not proceed.
Baines was sentenced to a minimum of seven years, Diallo got eight years and Hafner will have to serve a minimum of eight years and six months.
Judge Richard Maidment said the event at Thomastown didn’t occur in isolation as there was evidence the three had been communicating in respect of that sale from about May 1, 2022.
Baines was arrested at a property on Southbank Boulevard where police recovered three containers of liquid butanediol, three zip lock bags containing methylamphetamine and a mobile phone.
Judge Maidment said Baines’ prospects of rehabilitation was reasonable and depended on her refraining from drug use.
According to social media, Baines worked as a sales rep for various companies including businesses that sell adult products and toys.
Her social media was also littered with images of her enjoying a party lifestyle.
Hafner was arrested on September 22, 2022 and items seized included cash, 30g of heroin and 0.9g of methylamphetamine.
Diallo was involved in the importation of three consignments of 12.9kg of pure pseudoephedrine from Malaysia, Dubai and India between January and July 2022.
“You were an active participant in that conspiracy. It was not spontaneous and isolated but well planned and extended over six months and it was for financial reward,” Judge Maidment said.
Baines’ total sentence was 11 years, Diallo received 10 years and Hafner 12 years and eight months.
