A carpenter exposed as a drug kingpin after police found a stack of cocaine, ecstasy, weapons and cash at his Reservoir home has been jailed

Patrick Succar, 30, was sentenced in the County Court on Thursday to a minimum three years and six months’ jail after pleading guilty to charges including two counts of trafficking a commercial quantity of drugs.

Succar’s card was marked after he attempted to post almost a half a kilo of cocaine to a location in Sydney on December 12 2018.

The package was intercepted at Tullamarine and examined by an Australian Border Force officer.

Succar contacted Australia Post on multiple occasions to find out where his package was and when it will arrive at its destination.

“I’ve got a parcel that I dropped off at the yellow box umm yesterday,” Succar said during a recorded phone call to Australia Post.

“I’m just checking it’s tracking today and it’s saying pending or not available.”

Succar, who also pleaded guilty to trafficking ecstasy, used the alias ‘James Borg’ and claimed the package contained a “present” for a customer’s nephew.

Joint Task Force Icarus investigators mobilised a sting on Succar via phone intercepts and surveillance.

Police raided Succar’s home on February 5 last year.

Investigators seized another 660g of cocaine, 478 ecstasy tablets, a range of steroids and prescription medications and almost $350,000 stuffed in a sports bag and shopping bag.

Police also seized more than 2kg of a precursor chemical used to manufacture drugs including meth.

Succar was also nabbed with an arsenal of guns including a loaded semi-automatic handgun, a rifle and .38 revolver.

Investigators also seized evidence from various devices.

The court heard Succar caught a flight to Sydney with his wife on December 21, 2018, and later visited a NSW farm owned by his family.

The court was told Succar ran a successful carpentry business and he and his partner enjoyed the “finer things in life”.

For Succar, these finer things included an 8g a week cocaine habit.

The court was told Succar has cleaned up while on remand, having done drug courses in custody, and still had the support of his family and partner.

Judge Sarah Leighfield said she placed a substantial discount on Succar’s sentence because of the benefit of his guilty plea and the evidence of his remorse.

Judge Leighfield said he had “very good” rehabilitation prospects, and she had placed little weight on deferring him from future offending in determining sentence.

Succar was sentenced to a maximum of six years’ jail, having already served 681 days.

It was heard he would have been sentenced to 10 years jail, with a non-parole period of seven years, had he not pleaded guilty.
