UPDATED: A teenager has been charged after a wild police chase through the northern suburbs ended at a MacLeod service station on Wednesday afternoon.
Police confirmed on Friday morning they had charged a Lalor woman, 18, and a Melton West man, 29, over the incident.
Both have been charged with theft of a motor vehicle, conduct endangering life and a number of drugs and driving-related offences.
The Lalor teen was remanded overnight on Wednesday before being bailed yesterday to appear in court again in November.
The man was remanded until his next court appearance on May 20.
Three people were arrested when they stopped at a Shell service station at the intersection of Greensborough and Yallambie roads in MacLeod about 1pm.
The third person, a Reservoir man, 34, was released pending further investigation.
The pursuit started when police spotted a white Hyundai, which was reported stolen on Monday, travelling along High St in Thomastown at 11.47am.
The car, which had two people inside, was tracked to an underground car park on Plenty Rd, Bundoora, where it’s believed the offenders dumped the Hyundai and were collected by a third person driving a Toyota Kluger.
Police followed the Kluger until it stopped at a Shell service station at the intersection of Greensborough and Yallambie roads in Macleod.
Sergeant Cameron Scott said police arrested three people without incident at 1pm.
Witness Esra said he saw a white hatchback carrying two people wearing surgical masks run a red light on Mahoneys Rd about 12.30pm.
“Few seconds later about 10 cop cars were zooming after him,” she posted on Facebook.
Another witness, Emma, said she saw the car travelling the wrong way down the Plenty Rd on-ramp to the Metropolitan Ring Rd.
“He was coming from the east, turned north up Plenty Rd, white hatchback, window open, wearing a white surgical face mask,” she posted on social media.
Several witnesses also reported hearing a police helicopter buzzing above their homes while the chase unfolded.
It comes just a week after five people were arrested following a wild police chase through Melbourne’s north, which ended with a massive crash and five arrests on the M80 Ring Road on April 21.
The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
