Alleged car thief makes off with $250k sports car

Footage shows the moment an alleged car thief crashed into a police car after being busted towing a Nissan Skyline sports car worth $250,000.

Police pursue the Bundoora man on-foot before surrounding him on a construction site and arresting him.

The Skyline GTR was tracked down by GPS being towed by another allegedly stolen car, a Ford Territory SUV, in Diamond Creek.

The owner of the rare Skyline was watching a GPS tracker on board his vehicle when he noticed suspicious movement on Wednesday in Nutfield and notified police.

It is alleged the Skyline, which had recently been delivered from overseas, was on the back of a trailer and being towed.

Officers followed the Ford Territory and Skyline through Diamond Creek before attempting to intercept the vehicles.

The driver of the Ford Territory allegedly crashed into the police car on Reynolds Rd causing damage to the vehicle but no one was injured.

An Air Wing continued to track the allegedly stolen vehicles through Hurstbridge before they crashed through a fence on Kamarooka Dr.

The male driver then fled the scene on foot and a 20-year-old man was later arrested nearby.

He is assisting police with their inquiries.
