Police arson squad probes suspicious Lalor house fire
A house fire which sent thick smoke billowing across a neighbourhood in Melbourne’s north last night has been deemed suspicious, with the police arson squad now on scene investigating.

The police arson squad is investigating a suspicious house fire in Lalor after a triple-zero caller noticed plumes of smoke billowing from the Edgars Rd home on Monday night.
Emergency services arrived about 6.20pm to find the double-storey home ablaze.
Victoria Police sergeant Julie-Anne Newman told the Leader authorities had deemed the fire suspicious.
“A crime scene has been established and will remain in place overnight awaiting the arrival of the arson chemist,” she said.
No one was injured and no occupants were found inside the home.

More than 20 firefighters brought the blaze under control by 6.40pm.
A watch and act warning was issued to residents in Lalor and Thomastown as thick smoke spread into neighbouring streets.
