A Briar Hill couple have been accused of drug dealing after police raided their home on Friday morning.

Methamphetamine, GHB, $1325 cash, electronic scales and deal bags were allegedly uncovered in the Sherbourne Rd house, while messages about drug dealing were allegedly found on two phones.

Pasquale Corrone fronted Heidelberg Magistrates’ Court on Monday, July 20, charged with trafficking methamphetamine and GHB while on two community corrections orders for drug trafficking.

The court heard the unemployed 38-year-old had admitted to possessing and dealing methamphetamine to police, saying he and his partner would buy drugs, using half themselves before selling the rest to fund their use.

Senior Constable Mary Scalzo said police had searched the men’s home after being notified of the drug dealing.

They allegedly found 1.7g of methamphetamine and 20ml of GHB in the house, and another 1.6g of methamphetamine on the co-accused, with Corrone allegedly telling police the drugs had been bought just before the 8.40am raid.

Senior Constable Scalzo said police found messages about drug dealing from that morning on his phone.

The court heard he had been a drug user for more than a decade with and multiple convictions for trafficking methamphetamine, from as recent as March, for which he was receiving drug counselling.

Corrone was also allegedly facing charges for driving 22km/h above the speed limit on the Metropolitan Ring Rd in March, and unlicensed driving in March and December.

Corrone’s lawyer said his client would be contesting the charges, arguing Corrone’s involvement in the drug dealing.

He pushed for Corrone to be granted bail, saying he would be able to continue to receive help for his drug addiction on his corrections orders if not in custody.

But Magistrate Denise Livingstone disagreed with the lawyer’s argument that Corrone wouldn’t be likely to get a jail term if he was sentenced for the charges.

She agreed to bail Corrone, saying his application was “very close to the line”, only just getting over it.

She placed conditions ordering he live at a Lalor address, banning him from contacting his partner, driving, using drugs, and ordered he also undertake weekly drug screens.
