Peak hour commuters are facing massive delays in Melbourne’s north after a fatal motorcycle crash leaves lanes on a major freeway closed.
Emergency services rushed to Tullamarine Freeway in Essendon North on Friday about 2.30pm.
Police believe a motorcycle rider lost control on the Bulla Rd off ramp on the Tullamarine Fwy.
The rider, who is yet to be formally identified died at the scene.
A Victoria Police spokesman said, “the exact cause of the crash is yet to be determined at this stage”
The inbound exit from the Tullamarine Freeway to Bell St and Bulla Rd is closed.
The exit from the Calder Freeway inbound onto Bulla Rd is also closed.
Motorists driving towards the city on the Tullamarine Freeway who wish to avoid CityLink tolls are urged to exit earlier at English St and use Matthews Ave, Keilor Rd and Bulla Rd.
Those who do enter the CityLink stretch of the Tullamarine Freeway can exit at Brunswick Rd and use Mount Alexander Rd or Sydney Rd to backtrack.
Motorists wishing to reach Bulla Rd from the inbound lanes of the Calder Freeway should exit at McNamara Ave and take Keilor Road.

A Department of Transport spokesman said the left lane of both the Tullamarine and Calder freeways is closed approaching the Bell Street exits with the speed set at 40km/h.
“These ramp closures are under the direction of emergency services and will only re-open when it is safe to do so,” he said.
“Our signals team is adjusting traffic lights to help minimise delays on surrounding roads”.
There have been 128 lives lost on Victorian roads this year, compared to 136 this time last year.
