Social distancing restrictions and coronavirus fears have divided Northland Shopping Centre retailers with many shops remaining shut during lockdown.
Meanwhile supermarkets, banks, the post office and many food outlets serving takeaway were open.
Leader visited the centre on Tuesday and witnessed a number of people wandering the centre.
Hairdressers and salons were also open and most had multiple customers.
Viewbank shopper Alice, who did not want to give her surname, said she had not expected to see so many people at the centre and was worried about social distancing.
“I am surprised how many people are here,” Alice said.
Centre management had signs up encouraging shoppers to keep their distance, and stores had implemented their own measures to keep contact to a minimum, including marked standing positions on the ground and hand sanitiser.
Major chain shops Myer, Nike, Hype, Uniqlo, Sephora, H&M and TK Maxx all remain shut.
While Target, Kmart, Bed Bath N Table, Prouds, JB Hi Fi, EB Games, Robinson’s Bookstore, Rebel Sport and the Shaver Shop are open.
