A mysterious golden statue that garnered a cult following is set to be returned to All Nations Park in Northcote after it had been vandalised.

Darebin Council has agreed to return the artwork to its original site for 12 months, after which it will be auctioned off for charity.

First appearing at the top of All Nations Park hill on January 21, the work — affectionately dubbed Golden Head — was a hit on social media, attracting memes, jokes and never-ending questions.

Adoring fans even made the pilgrimage to the top of the All Nations Park hill to pay tribute.

Trouble struck on February 6 when followers found the statue had fallen, pushed over in the middle of the night by vandals.

It was quickly taped off and later removed by the council, which deemed the artwork unsafe.

The council placed the monument in storage in Northcote under the watchful eye of the Bundoora Homestead curatorial team.

But the statue’s prophet-like status was confirmed on February 22, when pilgrims stumbled onto a new Golden Head buried in the ground.

Theories grew like wildfire, flinging hypotheticals of the Illuminati, a new Dan Brown novel or a real-life carbonite prison.
