Northern suburbs trio arrested after police pursuit from Craigieburn to CBD

The police air wing was called in as a chase that started in Craigieburn ended in multiple crashes and high drama in the CBD. Now, three people are to face court over the dangerous incident.

A police chase that started in Craigieburn ended in dramatic scenes overnight when the driver collided with multiple vehicles including a truck in the CBD.

The pursuit started when patrolling police spotted a stolen Mazda station wagon driving erratically in Craigieburn just after 8.30pm.

Police spokeswoman Nikki Ladgrove said officers tried to intercept the car on Somerton Rd in Roxburgh Park shortly after but the driver failed to stop and evaded police.

Local police units and the air wing followed the stolen Mazda from a distance and saw the car pull over in Reynard St, Pascoe Vale South where a woman got out and attempted to run away.

“Police located and arrested a 27-year-old Brunswick woman shortly after,” Ms Ladgrove said.

“The Mazda continued towards Melbourne CBD where it collided with a car and police vehicle at the intersection of Flinders and King streets just after 9.30pm.”

She said the driver then drove away from the crash site before colliding with a truck at the corner of Elizabeth St and Flinders Lane.

A Meadow Heights man and a Craigieburn woman, 23, were arrested nearby shortly after attempting to flee on foot.

The Meadow Heights man has been charged with 15 offences including theft of a motor vehicle, reckless conduct endangering life, failing to render assistance after an accident and driving at a speed dangerous.

He was remanded to face Broadmeadows Magistrates’ Court.

The Craigieburn woman was charged with theft of a motor vehicle and handling stolen goods and was bailed to front Broadmeadows Magistrates’ Court on December 4.

The Brunswick woman was charged with handling stolen goods, dealing with property suspected to be the proceeds of crime and drug possession.

She was bailed to appear at Broadmeadows Magistrates’ Court on November 23.
