Two northern suburbs locals are among four students awarded full scholarships to undertake the Diploma of Beauty Therapy at Kangan Institute.
Broadmeadows’ Gwen Catamura and Greenvale’s Alexandra Anderson were awarded a L’Oreal Beauty For All scholarship, aimed to help people facing hardship pursue a rewarding career in the beauty industry.
The cosmetics giant has partnered with the institute to deliver the $48,000 program for the second year.
Ms Catamura hopes to start her own business when she graduates.
“Coming from an immigrant family it’s always been ingrained in my mind that education is my pathway to success,” she said.
Ms Anderson is already a beauty entrepreneur and runs an eyelash extension business.
“I want to continue to learn and grow so I can improve not only myself but my business and make sure that my clients are provided with the highest quality service and products,” she said.

Victorian Skills Commissioner Neil Coulson said skills development and education were paramount to an individual’s confidence and future prosperity.
“L’Oreal’s Beauty for All scholarship demonstrates a real commitment to bettering the lives of those who have experienced disadvantage and supports some of our most vulnerable in getting the training they need for the job they want,” he said.
By 2020, the L’Oreal Group will have helped 100,000 people from underprivileged communities, equivalent to their global workforce, access work.
